Our Efforts
In late February 2006, we obtained the January draft of the Citizens' Advisory Committee report, which
exposed the CAC's plan to rezone south Fidalgo to city-block-sized lots.
The week of March 13, Save South Fidalgo mailed a letter and ballot (24kb pdf) to
some 2000 south Fidalgo property owners asking if they supported the proposed rezone. We got more than
1200 responses, of which some 1100 opposed the rezone and approx 100 were in favor of the rezone.
On August 29, Save South Fidalgo hosted a standing-room-only candidate
forum at the Dewey Beach Firehall. Although all four candidates were invited, the
incumbent refused to attend. The candidate who received the most positive response
from the crowd, Sharon Dillon, won the general election with 65% of the vote of
south Fidalgo island.
On March 8, 2007, Save South Fidalgo released
our proposal for a fair and open process at the county's "open mic" meeting
at the Walla Walla Marine Station at Rosario Beach.
